FIRE AS A FOE
Fire in its most common
form can result in conflagration, which has the potential to cause physical
damage through burning. Fire is a good
servant but a very cruel master. The
negative effect of fire include hazard to life and property, atmospheric
pollution and water contamination.
HAZARD TO LIFE AND PROPERTY
Uncontrolled fire
burns homes and forests, and also kills people and animals. Destruction of lives and property by fire is
one of the almost daily disasters in the world.
Frequently when fire breaks out, humans are helpless and great losses
occur before the fires are brought under control.

ATMOSPHERIC POLLUTION
Fire produces a lot of harmful
gases. Particulate matter; carbon monoxide; atmospheric mercury; ozone-forming chemicals; and. volatile organic
compounds in fire smoke air pollution irritate eyes, nose, and throat; long term
exposure can cause cancer of these organs.
They can lead to asthma, emphysema, and other chronic lung diseases.
They can cause allergic
reactions in sensitive people.

WATER CONTAMINATION
Water
gets contaminated due to forest fires. Also the fire that breaks out in oil tankers cause very large scale
water pollution.

SOIL EROSION
The forest fire removes the protective
vegetation in the land. Subsequent heavy
rainfall may lead to soil erosion by water.
Also, when
vegetation is burned, the nitrogen it contains is released into the atmosphere,
unlike elements such as potassium and phosphorous which remain in the ash and
are quickly recycled into the soil. This
loss of nitrogen caused by a fire produces a long term reduction in the
fertility of the soil, which only slowly recovers as nitrogen is fixed from the
atmosphere by lightning and by leguminous plants such as clover.

DESTRUCTIVE WEAPONS
Fire is used for
destructive purposes. Most weapons are based
on the principle of fire. This applies
to simple devices like handguns, artillery pieces and nuclear bombs. The main destructive element in weapons or at
least the trigger is fire-based. In this
case, it is not fire, which is danger in itself, but rather because it is used
for destructive purposes by us.

LPG ACCIDENTS
Incidents related LPG cylinder blast is more
common nowadays. While 97 lives were
lost in accidents reported from Bengaluru, 91 were killed in Hyderabad. In all,
3,395 cases of gas cylinder burst were reported in India in 2013. And it is
women who take the brunt, with 76.1% of victims being women
