The triangular world- lesson 2

The Triangular World

Lesson 2
2.1 Essential Question:
Can you find the height of a tall tree with the help of a page of notebook?
2.2 Grouping Strategy:
         Group Formation
To begin with  teacher  briefed about “project based learning”.
Seven  students with proficiency in mathematics were selected.  They  formed their group by nominating one student at a time.  This helped to maintain balance in the overall calibre of each  group.  Thus the class has been divided into 7 groups comprising of Six members.

Three students were assigned the duty  of creating a blog and uploading in it.

        Group Composition:

While group formation, care has been taken for the group to be heterogeneous. Each group had a coordinator to coordinate the works and to compile the products . The whole project is subdivided and each group  is assigned with tasks and subtasks. Every member had a definite  role  apart from the  group  activity.

2.3 Learning Environment:
The typical class room learning environment has been adapted to a wide canvas.
The concept is split into small units and mastered with hands-on activities and demonstrations. The whole campus has been utilized for activities .They  have access to
computer and internet in the lab for their online research ,blog creation and updating.. Mathematics Lab and LCD room can be used for activities and Seminars.

2.4 Assessment Approach:

                2.41 Authentic Assessment:

In order to have an authentic Assessment each Group will carry out the following
tasks:-
·                                   1. Find the height of any two tall objects in the campus using an improvised                                      clinometer.
2.Group discussion on the application of trigonometry in daily life.
             3. Make a  report on the activity done
             4. Make a Power point presentation/
             5.  Conduct a seminar on the given topic
6.Prepare all objects needed for the projects (models, charts, cut-outs.. )and hold an                     exhibition of these artifacts
7.Solve the textual questions using the concepts acquired through project based                             learning
2.42 Formative Assessment:

The progress of the project has to be assessed frequently.

For the first  ten days, hold a get-together on every third day.  Conduct   need based meeting and discussion to ascertain   that a course of action is  in   the desirable direction. Appraise the development of each sub tasks .

2.43 Summative Assessment:
Assessment will be conducted based on :–

   >  Hands-on activity and its report
   >  Preparation of artifacts
   >  Power point presentation
   >  Utilization of Online resources
   >   Seminar Presentation
   > Problem solving ability

2.44 Rubrics:

Rubrics will include  performance of Hands-on activity and its effective  reporting, Effectiveness of Power point presentation, Utilization of Online resources,   Excellence of Seminar Presentation, Accuracy and computation skill in  Problem solving.
